📖 A verse on one page, a place for your hands on the other

Every spread works the same way. On the left, a passage and four or five lines of reflection — short enough to read twice. On the right, a full-page illustration drawn around that passage.

You read, and then you color. The reading settles while your hands are busy. That's the whole design.

✋ Nothing to keep up with

Most devotionals are built as a program. Day 1 through Day 365, a date on every page, and a quiet verdict waiting if you miss a week.

This one has no days and no order. Open it where you want, stop when you want, leave a page half-finished for a month. Forty sittings that don't care when you take them.

🕊️ Made to sit with

160gsm uncoated paper, heavy enough that markers and gel pens don't bleed through to the next page. Spiral binding, so it lies completely flat on a table or folds back on itself in a chair.

Single-sided printing. You never lose a finished page to the back of the one you're working on.

🎨 Twenty-four shades chosen for these pages

The illustrations are drawn for a soft, muted palette — dusty blues, sage, clay, warm neutrals — rather than primary brights. The 24-pencil set is matched to that range: wax-based, blendable, and soft enough to layer without pressing hard.

If you already have pencils you trust, take the book on its own. If you don't, this saves you a trip and a guess.

⏱️ Twenty minutes is enough

A page takes about twenty minutes. Not an evening, not a project. Long enough to actually slow down, short enough that you'll do it on a Tuesday when you're tired.

Some people do one in the morning before the house wakes up. Some do one after dinner instead of reaching for the phone. Both work.

🎁 It gives well

This is a hard thing to shop for — someone whose faith matters to them, who already owns three Bibles and a shelf of devotionals. A coloring book they'll use is a different category of gift from the fourth devotional they won't.

Ships in a plain, solid box. Nothing on the outside gives it away.

📐 The specifics

8.5 × 11 inches. 40 illustrated pages, 40 facing devotionals. 160gsm uncoated stock, single-sided. Black twin-loop spiral. Soft-touch laminated cover.

Still Waters isn't about coloring. It's about the twenty minutes you keep meaning to take and never quite do.

Try it for 60 days.

Color a few pages. If it isn't what you hoped for, send it back for a full refund — book in reasonable condition, pages you've worked on are fine.

We'd rather refund you than have it sit in a drawer.

  • I bought this for myself, not for a grandchild, and it's the best gift I've given myself this year. The line work is fine, so it doesn't strain my eyes, and I can take my time with a cup of coffee. The 8 x 8 inch square size sits nicely on my kitchen table. I've finished three pages and the paper takes pencil well without showing through. The only thing is I wish it had more pages—I went through it faster than I expected.

    Martha F.

  • I was hesitant to start because I know nothing about coloring, but the drawings are clear enough to follow easily. The 24 pencils give a good range of shades, and the greens and blues are the ones I reach for most. Four stars because the pencil box arrived a little dented in shipping—the book itself was perfect. I'd still recommend it; it's what I do for half an hour before bed instead of scrolling on my phone.

    Susan L.

  • I tried meditation and it never worked for me. This is the same thing but with my hands busy: twenty minutes coloring and the day is out of my head. The scenes are well chosen—they're not the usual little holy cards, there's landscape and detail to keep you engaged. One tip: start with the lighter colors and build up layers afterward; it comes out much better than filling everything in at once.

    Steven S.

You're not short on faith. You're short on quiet.

You meant to sit down with it this morning. Then the day started.

So you tried the evening instead, and by the time the house was quiet you were too tired to read anything. You picked up the phone instead, the way you do, and half an hour went somewhere you couldn't account for.

It isn't that you don't want the time. You've bought the devotionals. There's probably one on the shelf right now with a bookmark somewhere around day nine.

The problem is that sitting still and reading is the hardest thing to ask of a tired mind, and that's exactly when you have the time to try. Your attention won't hold a page. Five minutes in, you've read the same verse three times and taken none of it in.

Nothing about your faith is failing here. The format is just asking you to be sharp at the hour you have left.

Give your hands something, and your mind will stay.

Peaceful Moments with Jesus asks nothing of you except twenty minutes and a pencil.

There's no text on the page. Twenty scenes from the Gospels, drawn as full-page line art, and that's all. You pick one, you start filling it in, and something happens that most people only notice afterwards: the scene stays with you. You're not fighting to concentrate on a page of print at the end of a long day. Your hands are busy, and your mind goes where the picture is.

This is the oldest trick in contemplative practice, and it has nothing to do with art. Monks copied manuscripts by hand for the same reason. Occupying the body is how you quiet the part of the mind that won't sit down.

Twenty pages, no schedule, no days to fall behind on. Open it when you have twenty minutes. Close it when you don't.

The pages aren't the point. What happens while you're coloring them is.

Why not just a devotional, or just a coloring book?

Most people arrive here with one of each already. They're not bad — they're built for different things, and only one of them asks nothing of a tired evening.

    FAQ's

No. It's twenty illustrated scenes and nothing else — no verses printed on the page, no reflections, no commentary. If you want to read alongside, you use your own Bible.

Twenty moments from the life of Jesus: the wilderness, the lake and the boat, teaching among the crowds, the walk to the garden, the cross, the empty tomb, and more. Each one is a full page.

The illustrations are drawn for adults — full scenes with landscape, architecture and drapery, not cartoons. The point isn't the artwork anyway. It's that your hands being busy is what lets your mind stay on the passage instead of wandering off it.

There's nothing to ruin. Every shape is already drawn and outlined; you're filling, not creating. There's no wrong color and no way to go off-plan. That's most of why people find it restful.

Only if you want to. Two of the three options include a pencil set matched to these pages. The book on its own is there for people who already have pencils they like.

Because the twelve-color set covers the palette and the twenty-four-color set covers it properly — more range in the blues and greens, which is where most of these pages live. If you're unsure, take the 24. The difference in cost is small and the difference on the page isn't.

In between, on purpose. Enough detail to hold your attention for several minutes, open enough that you're not working with a magnifying glass. Every scene has large areas — sky, water, robes, hillside — alongside the finer parts.

It's the opposite. No days, no dates, no reading plan, nothing printed that you're behind on. You can leave it for three weeks and pick up exactly where you left off.

Send it back within 60 days for a full refund, even with pages colored in. We'd rather refund you than have it sit unopened.
